Cone Beam CT Scan X-Rays

When patients request dental implant replacement for teeth that have been or will be removed, it is important to know how much bone height and width remains, as well as the location of major nerves and sinuses in relation to the prospective implant dimensions.  In most cases, routine dental X-rays are adequate to guide dental implant placement.   However, occasionally Cone Beam CT Scan is ordered so that the major nerves, sinuses, and bone dimensions may be measured more accurately prior to surgery.   In addition, there is occasionally a need for an implant guide that fits onto the remaining teeth or bone to locate the position and direction of implants when several implants are placed at once.  These scans and guides come at additional cost and so we order them only when absolutely necessary in order to control cost and radiation exposure (though the levels of radiation in these scans are many fold less than medical CT Scans).
